Three Hares / ThreeSelfBeing
The symbol appears all over the globe
carved on temple entrances
all along the silk road
and in old caves
three hares, ears connected
run around in circles
hop like a
firewheel
skip like a
triple tomoe
stomp like a
description of our existence
The first hare is brown
and lives deep down
in the forest floor
digging
burrowed under
but running free
between trees
looking out for any dog and his man
dodging a fox and a goat and an elephant
and a raging Elk
all found in a corporate office or a retail store
The second hare is white
and lives far off
in the snowy ground
camouflaged by winter
running free between bare stumps
looking out for an eagle or a hawk
dodging a wolf or a bear or a possum and a rat
all found in an oval office or as soldiers of war
The third hare is black
and lives well up
in a house by an estuary near a park
his coat as a void at night with eyes
that glow bright and pierces right through
a man and his dog to see a kid inside
a young billy goat gruff jumping over fences
where they hang out in eclectic bars
with a magpie and a black swan
and then he changes his coat again
